Some 200 students in a training camp on Moroccan Sahara

The Guelmim section of the association “The National Coalition for the Defense & Protection of Sacred Constants” organizes the second edition of the “Diplomacy Camp” in Bouznika this August 18 to 28.

Around 200 young students will undergo training to defend the Moroccan Sahara issue and the territorial integrity and unity of the Kingdom.

The camp is held under the theme: “The Moroccan Sahara: from struggle against colonization to struggle against separatism,” said the association, set up in 2005.

According to Brahim Rguibi, president of the Guelmim branch, the 200 young students from various universities and NGOs were selected from 1,352 applicants. They are holders of a Bachelor of Arts or students at master’s level in law, history or journalism.

Some thirty academics, human rights activists, diplomats, experts, researchers, party leaders and prominent politicians who know the ins and outs of the Sahara issue will provide the training.

Workshops will enable the students, including those from the southern provinces of the Kingdom, to attend presentations and debates on international relations, through illustrative case studies, such as the seizure by South Africa of a vessel carrying Moroccan phosphate or the Media campaigns staged by opponents of the national cause, particularly in Scandinavian countries.

These training courses and debates would enable the students to learn how to refute with convincing legal, political and historical arguments the Sahara-related accusations carried by Morocco’s opponents, explains Brahim Rguibi.

Debates will also focus on the history and developments of the Sahara issue, the evolution of human rights in the southern provinces, the return of Morocco to the African Union, and the role of political parties, diplomats and parliamentarians in the defense of the country’s territorial integrity.

The Moroccan autonomy proposal for the Sahara as a political solution to this territorial conflict between Morocco and the Algeria-backed Polisario Front is also on the training curriculum.
